Paper Piece Quilted Table Cloth Class - 9:00AM

    Paper Piece Quilted Table Cloth

This class will take place from 9am to noon

You must be familiar with your sewing machine and be able to do basic sewing.

Tamara Welzant has learned this method from the two authors who wrote a book and traveled nationwide teaching classes at quilting shops. Since that time, she has created multiple quilts, table runners, throw pillows, and bags.

In this class, you will learn how paper pieces is done. A standard sewing machine will be used, thread, scrap fabric.

You’ll need to bring :

Sewing machine

Thread needles, etc.

Scrap material (to share if you want)

Straight pins

Rotary cutter

Small cutting mat (if you have one)

Quarter inch ruler(if you have one)

Double Knitting 101 Class - 3:00PM

    Double Knitting 101

Class will be held over two sessions: February 7th from 3pm to 5pm and February 21 from 3pm to 4pm

Irina Haller has been a knitter since she was very young, starting after she was taught by her grandmother. She has been knitting on and off for the past 50 plus years or so.

She has previously taught knitting classes in the past such as: basic knitting, lace knitting (including heritage knitting around the world), knitting in a round, Shetland color knitting, Aran and cable knitting, and double knitting (reversible fabric).

In this class, you will be taught how to make a coaster (about 4.5 by 4.5 inches) using double knit techniques and two colors. Skills will include a simple cast-on for the double knitting, color transitions, following a chart and written directions, simple double knitting cast off.

Tools and supplies: two contrasting or complimentary color yarns in worsted weight. Knitting needles US size 8 (5 mm). Patterns are free. Yarn and needles will be available for additional fee (participants are welcome to bring their own.

This is a three part class: February 10th, 17th, and 24th from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm each evening.

Description: Power tools can save time and expand what’s possible in the woodshop, but used improperly, they can also cause mistakes just as quickly. In this three-session class, students will learn the safe and effective use of five core woodworking machines: the table saw, planer, jointer, router, and miter (chop) saw. We’ll focus on shop safety, understanding each tool’s strengths and limitations, and developing good habits for control and consistency. This class is designed as a foundation and confidence-builder, giving students the hands-on experience they need to get comfortable with these tools and prepare for more advanced woodworking projects.

Registration Includes: Instruction and all materials are provided. What goes into our class pricing? As a local nonprofit, Duluth Folk School is committed to supporting both our instructors and community. We want to compensate our instructors fairly, keep class sizes small, and keep our doors open—while also keeping prices as low as we can.
